The government is seeking to bring some sanity back to the retail sector which has seen companies struggling to stay afloat, by punishing buyers who mistreat suppliers.
It has created a Buyer Power Department within the Competition Authority of Kenya to see to it that among other things, buyers do not delay payments to sellers without justifiable reasons. It will also see to it that buyers do not transfer costs to risks to suppliers by imposing requirements on them to fund the cost of a promotion.
